Pachinko
Min Jin Lee

Sunja refuses. Suddenly, a Catholic priest appears in the boardinghouse. He is ill and is taken care of by the women. As a way of thanking them, and out of kindness, he decides to marry Sunja. Together they move to Japan.
Since that moment, a family saga starts, showing the way Korean are treated in Japan. There are not considered citizens, not even the ones who are born in Japanese soil.
This is a novel of family struggle, the power of women who are illiterate but, at the same time, are able to support their families. The way they face every day problems, specially during the war, shows their courageous nature, the size of their hearts, the strenght in their hands.
